How To Clip Your Cigars Properly

Although every cigar aficionado has their own proven method, here are some basic guidelines to get you started on how to clip a cigar properly?

First, closely examine the head, or closed end, of the cigar. This is the part of the cigar that will need to be clipped. Determine where the 'cap' is. The cap refers to the part of the cigar where the tobacco leaf was used to close the cigar. Once you've found the cap, determine its length. As a general rule, you should not cut any further than the end of the cap. If you cut further than the cap, there's a good chance your cigar will unravel!

Use a good quality clipper to cut the head at the cap. You don't want a cheap cutter or a bad cutter as it will destroy a good cigar. You can purchase a special cigar cutter at your local tobacco shop that is designed to make clean cuts. When buying a high quality cutter, look for steel blades that's hardened to a Rockwell C rating of 56, the result is the hardest, sharpest blade you can buy. Remember, a cigar cutter is integral to the enjoyment of a good cigar.

Once you have your cutter, hold your cigar at eye level and make a fast and decisive cut just above the cap, you need to do this in one swift move. Don't be afraid to make a pre-cutting motion with the cutter to gain confidence. Less is more when cutting--if you find your cut is too superficial, simply cut down a bit more.

Partagas Maduro # 10

The secret of today's rich Partagas cigars lies in their wrapper leaves. Grown in Cameroon, the Central West African country where the steaming, sub-tropical climate unique to the fourth parallel is ideal for growing superb wrapper leaves, Cameroon wrappers have no equals for rich flavor. Indeed, Ramon Cifuentes determined that he could begin producing his Partagas cigars again only after he had discovered, years after the Cuban embargo had begun, that the best wrapper leaves were being grown in Cameroon rather than in Cuba.

The Names Behind Cigars

If you?re an avid cigar smoker, chances are you have pondered the question on the minds of many: what would I call my cigar line if I suddenly found myself rolling tobacco? Some of you might name it after your mom, others may name it after a childhood pet, calling it something like Smokey. Some of you may name it after a specific region, and others may simply love it, hug it, and name it George.

Those who do roll their own tobacco ponder this very same question; they often find their answers in a plethora of places. Attesting to the variety and individuality each line of cigars possess, the names maintain a similar sense of originality. The following is a list of some of the names of cigars on the market and the reasons for their declaration.

Romeo Y Juliet - Most of us know the story of Romeo and Juliet, the tale of two ill-fated people trapped between the conflict of dueling families. Known as one of the most stunning love stories of all time, William Shakespeare?s portrayal of two innocent lovers put Romeo and Juliet on the map, making them representative of both a true love lost and the problem with communication between those who are dating. As cigars, Romeo and Juliet fair much better; the tragedy lies in not smoking them.

William Penn- Born in 1644, William Penn founded the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a colony in North America that became the state of Pennsylvania. Overseeing the affairs of the Commonwealth, Penn became influential to the US Constitution. A bit overzealous, Penn also composed and published The United States of Europe, a plan to unify Europe in American fashion. William Penn was particularly notable because, in a time of oppression, he treated Native Americans with the respect they deserved. In fact, he often served as a mediator whenever a dispute came about.

Winston Churchill - The name Churchill has become so synonymous with the word cigars that some people may forget Winston Churchill was actually a statesman, an orator, and a Prime Minister. However, a cigar smoker first a prime minister and all the rest second, there are very few men in history who were as enthusiastic about cigars as Winston. His insistence on rarely being photographed without a cigar in hand led one London cartoonist to dub him ?Cigarface.?

Henry Clay - An American politician and the founder of the Whig Party, Henry Clay served in the House of Representatives and the United States Senate. Elemental in fighting for modernization and economic development, Henry Clay was also known as The Great Compromiser for his ability to remain clam and composed when facing issues of extreme duress. In his personal life, Henry Clay was a seeker of pleasantries and a gambler, having twice fought in a duel. It was probably his taste of the good life, as well as the fact that he represented a state where tobacco was grown, that led to a cigar line being rolled in his name

Monte Cristo - This cigar brand was named for The Count of Monte Cristo, a novel written by Alexandre Dumas. Legend states that this novel was very well liked among cigar rollers; it was often read aloud in the factories while the rollers worked. Considered to be one of Dumas? best books, The Counte of Monte Cristo involves the supposedly true tale of a man imprisoned for a crime he didn?t commit; he was framed by four jealous friends. While in prison, he was befriended by a dying man and told of the location of a treasure. After his release, this man found the treasure, adopted a new identity and began plotting his revenge.

Mike Ditka - Da, Cigars! The Mike Ditka cigar line is named for, who else, Mike Ditka. Born in 1939, Ditka made a name for himself as a player, a coach, and a television commentator. He?s best known as coach of the Chicago Bears and remains one of only two people to have won a Super Bowl as a player, an assistant coach, and a head coach. Mike Ditka cigars contain a cigar band that is a duplication of the 1985 Super Bowl ring. The cigars, like the man they are named for, contain a bit of bite.

Don Juan - As legend states, Don Juan was a man who courted a girl of noble blood, killing her father when he interfered. Much later, when Don Juan saw a statue of the man he had killed, he irreverently invited it to come over to dine. The statue gladly accepted and the ghost of the murdered man arrived for dinner (don?t you hate when that happens?). As this ghost shook Don Juan?s hand, Don Juan was dragged into Hell.

Simon Bolivar - Often credited with liberating Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and Bolivia, Simon Bolivar is one of the most renown figures in South American history. Having freed these countries from Spanish rule, he is known as The Liberator. Seventy-one years after his death, in 1901, the Roche Company in Havana honored him by placing his name on their cigar brand.

Having a cigar named after you is a huge honor; few people have the ability to look in a cloud of cigar smoke and see their reflection. Whether a brand is named for a historical figure or a figure of literary merit, the names behind each brand of cigars all serve a purpose, and they all tell a story, forever perpetuating the unique culture that only the luxury of tobacco can possess.

How to Pair Cigars and Alcohol

The cigar has long been viewed as a luxury of the rich and powerful. Images of well-to-do men puffing on a stogie and swirling a glass of good brandy Romeo Y Julieta Cigars have been well documented and memorialized in films and TV. If you are just becoming interested in cigars and would like to relax with a stogie and drink after a long day's work, here are a few tips to get you started.

Traditionally, the cigar has been paired with a strong drink. Popular spirits include rum, brandy, or whiskey. Some argue that a good cigar should always be paired with a strong drink that has a hint of sweetness. Indeed, cigar smokers have long enjoyed these popular pairings. For years, the idea of pairing cigars with beer has gone overlooked. But why overlook good old beer? Recently, the trend has been to pair cigars with various varieties of beer. It seems that as cigars have entered the mainstream, it has been democratized and popularized. What better way to enjoy a puff of this newly popularized treat than to pair it with beer?

Pairing a good cigar with a good beer is not an easy feat, but when accomplished, it is well worth Famous Smoke the effort. Much of the pairing has to do with your experience White Smoke level. If you are a novice, you will probably need help in pairing your specific cigar with an appropriate beer. If you have a more experienced palate, and you know what you like, you can probably make connections between certain types of cigars and beers.

Because cigars are so strong Smoke Alarm and flavorful, one of the challenges in pairing is to find a beer that complements the intensity of most cigars. Most cigars will pair nicely with a good barely wine or a single malt scotch. If your cigar can be described as woody, spicy, with hints of cedar, try pairing Arturo Fuente Cigars it with a barley wine. The fruity hint of barely wine should complement nicely with the spicy flavor of your cigar. The combination of a spicy cigar with a slightly fruity beer can create an overall creaminess that enhances the flavors of each significantly.

If you have no clue as to what flavor combinations might work, experiment. First, find a cigar that you enjoy. Try to identify the characteristics that you enjoy about it. Then, find a beer whose flavors you think might 'match' or complement the cigar. Many incredible discoveries have been made Liquid Smoke in much this same way.

Cigar Smoking Etiquette

Smoking cigars may be a great source of pleasure in your life, but the courteous smoker knows that not everyone enjoys the taste (or smell!) of a good Cuban. With the fervor of anti-smoking campaigns still in full swing, the importance of enjoying a good stogie while not offending others cannot be stressed enough. The World Market for Cigars, Cheroots, and Cigarillos Made with Tobacco: A 2004 Global Trade Perspective

The World Market for Cigars, Cheroots, and Cigarillos Made with Tobacco: A 2004 Global Trade Perspective
OUR APPROACH

This report was created for strategic planners, international executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for cigars, cheroots, and cigarillos made with tobacco. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics that appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for cigars, cheroots, and cigarillos made with tobacco for those countries serving the world market via exports or supplying from various countries via imports. I do so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners approaching the world market face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying cigars, cheroots, and cigarillos made with tobacco? What is the dollar value of these imports? How much do the imports of cigars, cheroots, and cigarillos made with tobacco vary from one country to another? Do exporters serving the world market have similar market shares across the importing countries? Which countries supply the most exports of cigars, cheroots, and cigarillos made with tobacco? Which countries are buying their exports? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing the regional markets for imported and exported cigars, cheroots, and cigarillos made with tobacco. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for each region, is based on a model which aggregates across country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares

An Overview Of Cuban Cigars

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding cuban cigars. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about cuban cigars.

Cuban cigars are a product that equates directly to quality. The very words evoke images of sophistication and glamour. Alfred Dunhill did not call his book "The Gentle Art of Smoking" for nothing. He understood that cigar smoking is an art form, that provides a sense of contemplation, peace and appreciated pleasure. The sale and importation of fine handmade cigars has risen more 30% annually for the past several years. It's a wonderful, relaxing past time that can be shared with friends male and female.
Cuban cigars on the whole are renowned as the world's best, which would be hotly contested by manufactures in Dominica, Honduras, Nicaragua, as well as others.

It's difficult for Americans to judge, since Cuban cigars, as well as other Cuban products, are illegal in the United States and have been since the Cuban embargo in 1962. And, yes, they are still illegal. As recently as 1995 this question was addressed once again. The following letter was sent to the members of the Retail Tobacco Dealers of America Inc. from the Department of the Treasury.

"Only persons returning directly from Cuba after a licensed visit there are permitted to bring Cuban cigars into the United States, provided the domestic value of such cigars does not exceed 100 U.S. dollars and the cigars are for the person's personal use and not for resale. Inasmuch as all other importations of Cuban cigars are illegal, you must assume that all offers to buy or sell such cigars in the United States involve cigars that are imported illegally. Contrary to what many people believe, it is illegal for travelers to bring into the United States Cuban cigars acquired in third countries (such as Canada, England, or Mexico).

Now that we've covered those aspects of cuban cigars, let's turn to some of the other factors that need to be considered.

"It is illegal for U.S. persons to buy, sell, trade, give away, or otherwise engage in (or offer to engage in) transactions involving illegally - imported Cuban cigars. The penalties for doing so include, in addition to confiscation of the cigars, civil fines of up to $50,000 per violation and, in appropriate cases, criminal prosecution which may result in imprisonment.

"We recognize that the prohibitions that apply to Cuban cigars may deprive many consumers of a sought-after product. However, these prohibitions apply to all goods of Cuban origin and are an important element of the comprehensive program of economic sanctions against the Cuban government which have been in place since 1963. These sanctions have had the full support of the past seven Administrations and were further tightened by President Clinton in August 1994."

However, Cuban cigars do find their way into the United States. It is estimated that some three to seven million Cuban cigars are smuggled into the country yearly, mostly by business men in their briefcases, military personal, and people returning from vacations to foreign countries.

You can't predict when knowing something extra about cuban cigars will come in handy. If you learned anything new about cuban cigars in this article, you should file the article where you can find it again.

The History of Ashton Cigars

Owned by a Philadelphia based enterprise and named after a well known and respected English pipe-maker these fine tailored cigars are made in the Dominican Republic.

These cigars come in three different styles of flavor. The first is simply known as Ashton. Then there is the Ashton Cabinet Selection and the Ashton Aged Maduro. All three are wrapped in Conneticut Leaf, although the Ashton Aged Maduro is wrapped in broadleaf instead of shade, and is also filled with a Domincan blend. You really must try them all to find your own personal preference.

The Cabinet Selection is the mildest of the three, due to the extra aging of the tobacco. If you prefer a slightly richer smoke go with the standard selection. If you like a sweeter cigar go with a Maduro No. 10. I personally recommend the standard selection but the selection of cigars is truly a personal decision.

Ashton also offers the Ashton Crown series which is made with only the most precious leaves from the Chatea de la Fuente farm. These special cigars are always a great choice.

Ashton is definitely my favorite brand of cigars. The quality and consitency of associated with this brand is unsurpassed. My favorite is the Ashton VSG, or virgin sun grown cigar.

A Look at How to Buy Discount Cigars

Unlike most cigarettes, cigars are available in a wide variety of prices, and a wide variety of qualities.  While the most discerning cigar aficionado can purchase brands costing upwards of several hundred dollars for just a small set, one can also choose from a variety of discount cigars that also offer a genuinely pleasing smoking experience.

In fact, some of the highest-quality brands of cigars can often be purchased at greatly reduced prices, if one is willing to do a little bit of looking around.  Discount cigars account for a large portion of the multi-million dollar cigar business in North America, making the practice accessible to smokers of all income levels.

One of the most common methods for purchasing discounted cigars is through the Internet.  A simple search for discount cigars will produce literally hundreds of results, with dozens upon dozens of low-priced cigars to choose from.  One prominent discount cigar merchant, Payless Cigars, has offered low-priced cigars, lighters, humidors, gifts and many other items since 1974.  The site is perfect for any cigar aficionado looking for quality products at reduced prices.

Some of the most common brands of premium cigars available at discounted prices include the famous Macanudo brand, which features several different cigars of varying tastes, as well as the well-known Montecristo and Nat Sherman labels.  Despite their availability at discounted prices, they are high quality, handcrafted cigars and are widely purchased and smoked buy enthusiasts all over the U.S.

One key to finding real savings in discount cigars is to buy in bulk.  Oftentimes, when an individual elects to buy a large assortment of cigars at one time, major discounts are available.  Cigar bundles are popular among smokers who desire either a variety of cigar choices, or sheer quantity for gifts to friends or relatives.  In most cases, next day delivery is available for a small, additional fee.

Although certain brands of cigars will always be expensive, discount cigar merchants can make many cigars and cigar products affordable for almost anyone.

Diamond Crown Robusto #1

Starting in 1991, Stanford Newman pondered production of a super premium cigar, the Diamond Crown, with Carlos Fuente Sr. In celebration of his J.C. Newman Cigar Company's upcoming 100th Anniversary, Stanford developed an outstanding line of cigars unique in the market. Cost, time and market viability were of no concern. In his mid 70s, Standford wanted to cap off five decades in the cigar business by creating the smoothest, most flavorful cigar possible. Stanford knew that if he wanted to deliver the richest, yet most consistent full-flavored cigar possible, he would have to make the Diamond Crown a thick cigar. The larger ring allows for the blending of 6-7 individual tobacco leaves (an extremely complex blend of tobaccos).

Macanudo Maduro Duke of Devon

Today, Macanudo Maduro cigars are crafted in the Dominican Republic with the very best Connecticut Broadleaf wrappers. Even grainier, oilier and more flavorful than the Maduro wrapper leaves that were grown for Macanudo in the San Andres Tuxtla Valley, the Maduro wrappers now used by Macanudo are truly exceptional. In fact, only two of the many tobacco farms in the Connecticut River Valley yield Broadleaf tobacco leaves that meet the high standards for Macanudo Maduro. Like a rare port wine, a Macanudo Maduro has a lingering, rich flavor that lends itself to moments of the most tasteful relaxation.

The Art of the Smoke: A Pictorial History of Cigar Box Lables (Schiffer Book for Collectors)

The Art of the Smoke: A Pictorial History of Cigar Box Lables (Schiffer Book for Collectors)
"A picture is worth a thousand words." There is no better description for what the art of the cigar box label did for sales of cigars from the mid 1800s through the 1930s. Busty women, heroes, impish children, sports icons, composers, all these and more found their way into the advertiser's art. The makers would change labels at the drop of the hat if they thought it would help sales. This new book shows hundreds of the finest examples from the world's largest private collection of cigar box label art, revealing the imagination and creativity of the printers and lithographers of the period. Each is shown in a beautiful, full color photograph and is accompanied by a description with a current value on the collector's market. This is a visual delight, sure to please cigar aficionados, but also to be much valued by collectors, designers, and students of advertising history. And it makes a great gift for the smoker in your life!

Drugstore Cigars: A Good Buy?

The sheer diversity of cigars can be confusing for new smokers. Many new smokers want to know: is it OK to buy cigars from their local drugstore or chain store? What is the quality of these cigars? Can you expect to get good flavor from these cigars?

While of course Stop No Smoking Signs Smoking Pill, it's perfectly OK to purchase these cigars, be aware that these packaged cigars are usually of poorer quality. Most 'drugstore' cigars contain Dominican Cigars preservative or other non-tobacco ingredients. Common ingredients found in packaged cigars may include paper, Glycerin, and saltpeter. High quality cigars will contain only Smoke Bombs tobacco. Packaged drugstore cigars will generally contain these extra ingredients designed to keep them stored on the shelves Smoke Bomb for extended periods of time.

In order to get the best quality Smoking Popes cigars, you will have to visit your local tobacconist. While many mail order businesses do carry good quality cigars, be aware that they usually will not sell singles, thus you will have to purchase whole boxes. Visiting your local tobacconist allows you to test different brands before settling on a box.
